Recently I started offering open office hours at Lyft. I was skeptical that anyone would sign up, but it turns out that a lot of people have, and the conversations have been very engaging. I can’t speak directly for those that I have talked to, but I myself have learned a lot and I think it’s very useful for senior non-managers to make themselves available for random discussions without fear of imposition.
Because ~50% of my job is engaging with the industry via Envoy, CNCF, etc. I thought it would be fruitful to set aside some time each week to have office hours open to anyone. This time can be used to talk about Envoy, CNCF, cloud native technologies, or just get general career advice. I’m open to anything! For more information on how to sign up please see this page.
